Le immagini in questa serie sono un tentativo di creare un luogo dove le nostre fantasie si sovrappongano. Un mondo dove personaggi deformi comunicano, giocano, dormono e sognano. Esso ha il proprio ufficio postale, la propria valuta e i propri giochi di carte. Monster Island è un rifugio per le idee che si formano nel nostro subconscio, e non trovano nessun altra casa nel mondo dell'arte commerciale.

Breve biografia
Sarah Lippett e Duncan Barrett sono laureati presso l'Università di Brighton nel 2006. Poco dopo, si trasferiscono a Londra e formano crayonlegs.com. Da allora, hanno lavorato come illustratori per una varietà di clienti, compresi The Guardian, The Radio Times, The Stranger, Management Today, Plan B Magazine, e Wichita Records. I Crayonlegs hanno esposto frequentemente, e, di recente, hanno prodotto una nuova rivista, ' Tight Fit ' (“Aderente”).

Il taccuino di viaggio di Sarah e Duncan

Gli inglesi Sarah Lippett e Duncan Barrett, che insieme danno vita al duo Crayonlegs, sono appena tornati da un lungo viaggio.

Un viaggio che li ha portati ad esplorare la Monster Island, a viverci per un po’, forse a diventarne cittadini onorari. Dalla loro permanenza sull’isola, hanno riportato una cartella piena di disegni, appunti, illustrazioni, impressioni della terra visitata, un po’ come un bizzarro diario di viaggio ottocentesco.

Gli occhi attenti ed il blocco da disegno di Sarah e Duncan hanno catturato una lunga serie di immagini… Ritratti dei suoi abitanti, dall’ex-galeotto al giardiniere innamorato, dalla coppia di fidanzati al serio contabile. Istantanee della vita isolana, dai giocatori di carte ai due onesti cittadini che si scambiano un composto saluto incontrandosi lungo una strada di un rispettabile sobborgo. Stralci della vita cittadina, come la scena surreale di un incontro al parco tra uomini accompagnati dai loro uomini-cane, e forse intenzionati a fare una partita a carte tutti insieme, o come il triste balletto di una serie di danzatori in calzamaglia.

Accanto a ciò, appunti, scarabocchi, ritratti abbozzati, come quelli che si fanno, in viaggio, su un autobus caracollante o al tavolino di un caffè straniero; e locandine di manifestazioni sportive e religiose, attaccate di traverso sulle pagine del taccuino.

Attraverso questo mosaico di impressioni, i viaggiatori Crayonlegs riescono a comunicare anche a noi l’atmosfera che hanno respirato a Monster Island, la luce tenue, la vita tranquilla di provincia, le piccole soddisfazioni, i picoli conflitti, e le piccole tristezze di un mondo che hanno creato loro stessi, come dicono “per avere un luogo dove lasciar sovrapporre la loro fantasia”, ma che, come spesso succede, ha iniziato a vivere di vita propria.

Monster Island

The images in this series are an attempt to create a place where our  imaginations overlap. A world where disfigured characters communicate,  play, sleep and dream. It has it's own post office, currency and card  games. Monster Island is a refuge for the ideas that form in our subconscious, and find no other home in the world of commercial art.

Short biography:

Sarah Lippett and Duncan Barrett graduated from the University of  Brighton in 2006. Soon after they moved to London and formed  crayonlegs.com and have since worked for a variety of clients including  The Guardian, The Radio Times, The Stranger, Management Today, Plan B Magazine and Wichita Records. They have exhibited widely and produced a  new magazine, ' Tight Fit '.

The travel jotter of Sarah and Duncan

Sarah Lippett and Duncan Barrett, who together create the duo Crayonlegs, just have come from a long journey.

A journey that brought them to explore the Monster Island, to live there for a while, perhaps to become honorary citizens. Since their stay on the island, they have brougth back a folder full of drawings, notes, pictures, impressions of the land visited, similar to a bizarre travel notepad of the last century.

The watchful eyes and the notebook of Sarah and Duncan have captured a long series of images ... Portraits of its inhabitants, from galley slave to the gardener-lover, from the loving couple to the serious accountant. Snapshots of island life, from the players cards to the two honest citizens who greet each other organizationally meeting along a street in a respectable suburb. Extract of city life, like the surreal scene of a meeting at the park for men accompanied by their dog-men, and perhaps willing to make a game of cards all together, or as the sad ballet of a number of dancers in tights.

Besides this, notes, scribbles, sketched portraits, like those who do, traveling on a stuggering bus or a stranger coffee shop, and posters for sportive and religious events attacked across the pages of the notebook.

Through this mosaic of impressions, the travelers Crayonlegs have been able to communicate us the atmosphere that have breathed in Monster Island, the feeble light, the peaceful life of the province, the small satisfactions, the small conflicts and the small sorrows of a small world which have created themselves, as they say "to get a place to let their imagination overlap”, but, as often happens, began to live his life.
